Motuz Group

Ipswich Jazz Festival

Motuz Group are a great example of the exciting new style of jazz being created by young musicians, Motuz is a ground breaking, exciting and inspirational quartet. Formed from a larger collective of Musicians and Dancers called ‘Motuz Ensemble’, the artists met whilst studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Drawing on experience and ideas from many different projects and genres ‘Motuz Group’ began their inaugural works and explorations in Spring 2019. Notable influences are contemporary dance, classical music, jazz and free jazz improvisatory formats. Innovation is one of the many visions of Motuz Group achieving this through the development of their own artistic language which enhances the equality throughout the performance. Each performance is totally unique with only very minimal basis and scoring compositionally and choreographically for each piece. Audiences will appreciate a new way of perceiving a dance show or music gig and experience an empathetic conversation in motion. Hear the Dance; Witness the Music!

Featuring Paola Drera (Dance) Mark Hurrell (tenor saxophone), Olly Chalk (keys) and Sam Ingvorsen (bass).

Ipswich Jazz Festival, 26th–27th June 2021

It’s nice to be back with live jazz!

After a terrible year for all of us, we’re back with a great line up of gigs for the 2021 Ipswich Jazz Festival.

This year’s festival will be different to past ones because we feature performances by nine very different bands showcasing the wide range of music which is jazz today. Each performance costs just £10 with a limited number of concessionary tickets for people on low incomes at just £1 (see below to find out who is eligible).

As things stand at the moment, the gigs will be limited to just 30 people in the audience with ventilation, socially distanced seating and other COVID-safe practices in place. For the same reason, there will be no bar, and the audience will leave the venue between each gig so we can clean. If things improve, we will make suitable changes. We will carefully monitor the advice and guidance about the pandemic and the festival will only go ahead if it is safe and legal to do so.

Ipswich Jazz Festival 2021 is dedicated to the memory of local jazz enthusiast, guitarist and Ipswich Hospital consultant haematologist, Dr Nick Dodd (27-06-1950 – 19-09-2020).
