Tina May, Enrico Tomasso and the Chris Ingham Trio

Ipswich Jazz Festival

Introduced by our guest compere Stephen Foster.

Featuring Tina May (vocals), Enrico Tomasso (trumpet), and the Chris Ingham Trio with Chris Ingham (piano), Arnie Somogyi (bass), George Double (drums).

As a truly international artiste and lyricist, Tina May continues to give performances in China, Australia, Singapore, the US – as well as Europe, teaming up with musicians all around the world resulting in packed theatre and club performances in festivals worldwide.

Tina is renowned for her interpretations of the great jazz repertoire to which she often adds Francophile lyricism and a cinematic European twist … also adding a touch of humour.

Enrico Tomasso is a premier trumpeter on the jazz scene and has won the British Jazz Awards 6 times. He imbues a wide variety of jazz styles with an exciting presence and dynamic personality and will be paying homage to some of the ‘greats’ Including Louis Armstrong whom he met and was mentored by as a child. In fact Enrico and Tina may be persuaded to perform some of the immortal Ella and Louis duets.

The Chris Ingham Trio is one of the UK’s leading rhythm sections. The group which consists of pianist Chris Ingham, bassist Arnie Somogyi and drummer George Double are regulars at Ronnie Scott's Club and have received high praise in both the national and specialist jazz press.

Ipswich Jazz Festival, 26th–27th June 2021

It’s nice to be back with live jazz!

After a terrible year for all of us, we’re back with a great line up of gigs for the 2021 Ipswich Jazz Festival.

This year’s festival will be different to past ones because we feature performances by nine very different bands showcasing the wide range of music which is jazz today. Each performance costs just £10 with a limited number of concessionary tickets for people on low incomes at just £1 (see below to find out who is eligible).

As things stand at the moment, the gigs will be limited to just 30 people in the audience with ventilation, socially distanced seating and other COVID-safe practices in place. For the same reason, there will be no bar, and the audience will leave the venue between each gig so we can clean. If things improve, we will make suitable changes. We will carefully monitor the advice and guidance about the pandemic and the festival will only go ahead if it is safe and legal to do so.

Ipswich Jazz Festival 2021 is dedicated to the memory of local jazz enthusiast, guitarist and Ipswich Hospital consultant haematologist, Dr Nick Dodd (27-06-1950 – 19-09-2020).
